“Faith It Until You Make It”

By: Joyce Malcolm

When I think of faith, the first thing that comes to mind is walking with my eyes closed, and trusting someone to guide me. Practically, that is faith. You can’t see God leading you, but you believe He's guiding you.

The Bible defines faith as "... the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." - Hebrews 11:1.

As a university student, I have had to step out in faith many times – even when the leap seems almost impossible. There were many days when all I could do is, trust God.
University students face many faith-testing experiences. From finding money for tuition, to completing assignments – it’s all a test.

I'm a student who works full-time, and goes to classes part-time. With this reality, I find it very challenging to fund myself and my daughter, plus keep up with my assignments.

Leaping on faith

Each month I use to find myself wondering how I would survive from pay check to pay check. I was always stressed and overwhelmed by this; but, can I tell you that things have gotten better?

Though my paycheck has not increased, I decided to shift my focus. Most times it’s not what happens to you, but how you respond. I realized that God had never failed me during the months I use to worry.

So, I stopped focusing on my finances, and started focusing on God. I have learnt to faith it from pay check to pay check because God never leads me to a dead-end. Each month end, I am grateful to God for His provisions. I'm even doing a better job at balancing my assignments.

I know you might not be a university student who has a child to take care of like me, but I am absolutely sure you still have it as hard. Here are a few faith quotes that I have learned to hang on to, especially during the darkest moments of my life: I hope they work for you too.
  • “Anyone who comes to God must believe that God exists, and that He rewards those who sincerely seek him.” - Hebrews 11:6.
  • “Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds.” - Luke 12:24.
  • “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” - Martin Luther King Jr.
  • “Faith is the light that guides you through the darkness.” - unknown.
  • “Feed you faith, and your fears will starve to death.” - Max Lucado.
So, you may ask: “How am I going to survive my university journey?” I hope your answer includes faithing it, and making it.

You’ve got this!

  1. The first step can be so hard to take. We just have to be brave. Just close your eyes, block the doubt out and jump!!!!

Faith it! My favourite quote is the one from Martin Luther King Jr. God really didnt intend for us to see the whole picture, but rather to trust Him with every move we make.

  4. Amen. Faith it while you can.. As you said earlier on that God never leave us to a 'dead-end' you are right about that. Just trust him even more and he will guide you in the right path.
