“Peace in the Storm”

By: Roberta Archer

“Jesus said to His followers, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” –Mark 4:40.

That was the question Jesus asked His disciples immediately after He calmed a raging storm that developed while He was on a boat in the Sea of Galilee.

Funny enough, that was the same question I asked myself when a recent storm in my life had developed.

Though Jesus’ storm was a literal one, mine was figurative.

Storms come in many different shapes and forms; storms may come in the form of death, sickness, financial constraint, depression, school or work load, and even internal conflict.

Going to university has a way of taking a toll on one’s mental health. Over the last couple of months, I’ve been grasping for motivation to keep my academic ball rolling. I was overwhelmed with tons of school work. It felt as though the storm would not pass over.

Just when I thought I would catch a break, the Corona virus broke out.

With this global crisis, school is still in session. I’m still engulfed with online worksheets, presentations, and even reading assignments. For heaven’s sake! I’m writing this blog for an assignment.

Just a couple of days ago, the storm began to rage angrily. I had so many deadlines to meet and I was fearful that I would not meet them, nor overcome what was bombarding me.

During that time, I decided to take a walk in my community to relax my mind. It was then that I was reminded of the scriptures.

I asked myself, “Why are you afraid? Where is your faith?”

The assurance of God’s promises came back to me. He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” Matthew 11:28.

In that brief moment I found peace.

Science teaches us that the eye of the storm is the only peaceful part of the hurricane.
I had found myself right in the eye, and it teaches me that peace can exist even in the midst of a storm.
  1. Talk to God or a friend about what you are going through.
  2. Re-focus your thoughts.
  3. Take a break from your stressful environment by going for a walk in the park.
  4. Do something relaxing like watch a movie or listen to your favourite type of music.

Some of you may feel overwhelmed with school work like me; so, here’s a few ways in which you can find peace in the storm.

Remember; don’t wait for the storm to pass for you to experience peace.

My storm is still raging, but God’s word brings me assurance and gives me peace even in crisis.

I hope the above tips will help you. However, for more tips you click the following link:
