The Praying Masterpiece

Image
By: Danieka Thompson  Masterpieces are made from a series of failures or disappointments that finally breakthrough to create success. I learnt this at an early age when I would try my best to be on the same level as the supposedly ‘bright children’ in my class.  In grade one; my teacher would have two sides on the blackboard – ‘A’ and ‘B.’ I was on the ‘B’ side, where my teacher would give the easier work because we were the ‘not so bright’ students.  I would sit in class all day and get my work marked with correct answers. Sadly, no matter what, my work was never good enough for the ‘A’ side. My teacher even said it to me. Can you believe it? From a young age, I felt like I was not academically good at what I did. Nevertheless, I knew God blessed me with a brain to achieve great things. Fast forward to the sixth grade, I had a different teacher at a different school. One day, I carried a newspaper to school with my father’s face on the front page to...

"Don't Lose Faith"

By: Romona Geo haghan  “Cough!” “Cough!” “Sneeze!” “Sneeze!” Many university students are having shortness of breath; but, it’s not the Corona Virus, its assignments making them sick. Have you ever been in a situation where it feels as if everything is caving in and you’re suffocating? If you’re in university right now, you may know what I’m talking about. With this Corona Virus Pandemic, the cry of some of my friends and schoolmates are that assignments and projects are piling up. For others, it’s not so much about the assignments, but it is more about the lack or unavailability of certain resources. These resources may be money, laptop, WIFI, etc. Helping Hand    If you find yourself reading this and food, internet, or money isn’t a lacking necessity for you, then be grateful for what you have, and don’t forget to be kind with it.   It would be a grand gesture if you could share some of your resources with someone who is in need. ...

"Just Have Faith!"

By: Joyce Malcolm  My friend Kathy has a giant-like faith like none that I’ve seen before.  We became friends some years ago, and each day our friendship grew like springtime.  After our friendship became close knitted, her marriage fell apart, and she was left to survive on her own, plus take care of her young children. Being a single mom, life has not been easy for her.   Her beauty salon saw only a few customers dropping by every now and again. Her finances began to dwindle, and her money was just not enough to take care of certain necessities. As time progresses, things became even more difficult for Kathy and her children; bills to pay, hungry mouths to feed, school fees to pay, and the list goes on.   Many times I sit alone and contemplate my own life and its challenges; but, I’m still drawn into Kathy’s world, and how she is able to manage each day. Though things are rough, and she cries so often, I’m still so intrigued by Kathy’s...

"Where Do You Get Your Water?"

Image
By: Roberta Archer  As a university student, stress is no stranger to me. I’m not proud to announce it, but it does affect me because it produces a lot of toxins in my body. To reduce these toxins, I drink a lot of water to flush out my system. There are many kinds of people in this world; but, when it comes on to drinking water, there are only two kinds: the ones who purchase water from the store to drink, and the ones who drink straight from the pipe. I’m the kind who drinks from the pipe, but I have a friend who drinks only from the water he purchases from the store because that's the only water he has faith in.  Water is such a vital part of life. The European Federation of Bottled Water listed five functions of water on their website. They are: Water carries nutrients to all cells in our body and oxygen to our brain. Water allows the body to absorb and assimilate minerals, vitamins, amino acids, glucose and other substances. Water helps to regulat...

"In the Nick of Time"

By: Danieka Thompson  When I was younger, I would get excited when I heard that a storm was coming. However, now that I’ve grown, I no longer feel the thrill of experiencing storms, because I realized that storms can be even more brutal and figurative in nature. Despite the disruptive nature of storms, I’ve decided to use them as an opportunity to increase my faith in God.   I’m a university student, and sometimes life gets crazy for me.  Last semester, I had no idea how I would pay my tuition. So, I decided to try student loan; but, it turned out that I didn’t meet the requirement. I was so disappointed because I really needed the loan. This was a very difficult time for me, as I was missing out on assignments. Nevertheless, I still kept my faith. Time passed, and nothing happened in my favour. The Bible in James 2:26 proclaim that, “Faith without works is dead.” So, I try a series of things to get registered.   I went to the Office of ...
