"Just Have Faith!"

By: Joyce Malcolm

My friend Kathy has a giant-like faith like none that I’ve seen before.  We became friends some years ago, and each day our friendship grew like springtime.

After our friendship became close knitted, her marriage fell apart, and she was left to survive on her own, plus take care of her young children.

Being a single mom, life has not been easy for her.  Her beauty salon saw only a few customers dropping by every now and again. Her finances began to dwindle, and her money was just not enough to take care of certain necessities.

As time progresses, things became even more difficult for Kathy and her children; bills to pay, hungry mouths to feed, school fees to pay, and the list goes on.

Many times I sit alone and contemplate my own life and its challenges; but, I’m still drawn into Kathy’s world, and how she is able to manage each day.

Though things are rough, and she cries so often, I’m still so intrigued by Kathy’s steadfast faith in God.  Whenever she talks about how bad her situation is, she would always end her sentences by saying, “God is good.”

I know God is good – all the time; but, how does she find solace in times of trouble?
The answer is much simpler than I thought. There’s no secret to her formula. All she does is look to God, who is the author and finisher of her faith.

Trusting God

Seeing how God has always showed up for Kathy right before my eyes strengthens my faith in God. Her situation has taught me that faith comes alive when we exercise trust and joy in God’s presence in our life.

James 1:2-4 encourages us to rejoice in our suffering. It says, "Consider it pure joy, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

You’re a university student, and what you’re going through might not be similar to Kathy’s circumstance; but, I assure you that once you have faith in God, He will comes through for you.

Sometimes faith is all you’ll have left, but nothing beats trusting God. So, just trust God and exercise patience in all trials. Things are looking up for Kathy, and the same will happen for you too.
Just have faith!
