"Where Do You Get Your Water?"

By: Roberta Archer

As a university student, stress is no stranger to me. I’m not proud to announce it, but it does affect me because it produces a lot of toxins in my body. To reduce these toxins, I drink a lot of water to flush out my system.

There are many kinds of people in this world; but, when it comes on to drinking water, there are only two kinds: the ones who purchase water from the store to drink, and the ones who drink straight from the pipe.

I’m the kind who drinks from the pipe, but I have a friend who drinks only from the water he purchases from the store because that's the only water he has faith in.

Water is such a vital part of life. The European Federation of Bottled Water listed five functions of water on their website. They are:
  1. Water carries nutrients to all cells in our body and oxygen to our brain.
  2. Water allows the body to absorb and assimilate minerals, vitamins, amino acids, glucose and other substances.
  3. Water helps to regulate body temperature.
  4. Water acts as a lubricant for joints and muscles.
  5. Water flushes out toxins and waste.
All of the above are benefits of drinking water. However, the final point really had me thinking. It says that ‘water flushes out toxins and waste’ from our body.

Toxins typically include pollutants, synthetic chemicals, heavy metals, and processed foods — which all negatively affects our health. What I realized is that whether we get clean water from the store, or from the pipe, it doesn’t matter, because it does the same detoxifying job in our bodies.

Spiritual Toxins

When I meditate on how essential God’s presence is in our life, it blew my mind.
Here’s the revelation that I received:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a preference in where we get our water from; but, when it comes on to flushing out the toxins that corrupt our spiritual life, there is only one place we all have to get our water from, and that is from Jesus Christ. He is our spiritual detoxifier, and our living water.

You may ask what are the spiritual toxins that I speak of? Well, these toxins may be malice, enviousness, theft, unforgiveness, fornication, lust, and evil thoughts.1 Peter 2:1 says, “So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.

To flush out these toxins, we must have faith in God's power, and invite His presence in our lives. God’s presence cannot dwell among these toxins. Therefore, they will gradually leave.

2 Timothy 2:21 also says, “If anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.”

Once we flush out all spiritual toxins in our lives, we will be fit to do God’s work. So, just have faith in His water.

The next time you think to get water from the pipe, or from the store, just remember that at the end of the day, the only water that can truly flush us, is the one that Jesus has to offer.

  1. I love the comparison you did between the necessity of drinking water and our need for God. He provides our needs and at the same time, He is who we need.

  2. 🙂 water is indeed life and the source of all living creatures or organisms. Appreciate the thought of doing this especially in this time of social bereavement.
